Hi All!
It has been weeks since I published a Reading. Watching. Listening. because frankly, my reading, listening and watching have all felt pretty broken. Since the Hamas attack on Israel, my attention span has been at post 2016 election or early pandemic levels. I haven’t really loved anything I have read because I am reading in such short spurts. I am listening to lots of news podcasts and some bookish podcasts but for some reason, listing those here has felt overwhelming. And I am watching nothing but Grey’s Anatomy.
This week though, I was reminded- well actually, I reminded myself- of Poetry Unbound and I am so grateful. I recommended this collection during this season’s edition of Check It Out at the Ridgewood Public Library. As we discussed the book, Roberta told me that Padraig O’Tuama was a guest on the library’s podcast, A Bend in the Road. I have no idea how I missed these episodes but I spent a beautiful hour-ish yesterday listening to them. While listening, I was reminded of how magical an experience it is to listen to Padraig talk about anything really but especially about poetry.
So this morning, I pulled out my copy of Poetry Unbound, re-downloaded the audio from Hoopla and read and listened to three poems and Padraig’s reflections on the writing and themes within them.
And you know what? After just a little bit of time engaging with this work, I feel better about the world.
So that is what I am reading and listening to this week (with a side of Grey’s Anatomy of course!).
I’d love to hear what you are reading, listening to and watching. Please share!
xo,
Stacey
Stacey, this is such a beautiful volume and a perfect place to find solace in this impossible world. Thank you for sharing! I'm going to dig out my copy and reread today.
