Hi All
I am so excited to share something fun I am doing at the Ridgewood Public Library this fall. Our director, assistant director and I are hosting a new program that we are calling Check It Out: “The Hours”: Screening Brunch.
During our Check It Out: Summer Edition, Roberta talked of her love for Michael Cunningham’s book The Hours. As she spoke, audience members chimed in and it quickly turned into an impromptu discussion of all things related to The Hours. We talked about Mrs. Dalloway, the book that inspired Cunningham’s novel along with the film versions of both Mrs. Dalloway and The Hours.
As Lorri, Roberta and I were discussing our plans for the fall, we decided it would be fun to turn our impromptu discussion into a planned discussion and the Screening Brunch was born.
Roberta promises that one can read The Hours without reading Mrs. Dalloway but… I have never read Virginia Wolf and this seems like the encouragement that I need to check that readerly goal off my list. So… I plan to read Mrs. Dalloway before diving in to The Hours. And I plan to watch the 1997 version of Mrs. Dalloway before our event.
But… you can also do none of the above! I hadn’t read or watched anything related to The Hours during our discussion over the summer and I still found the conversation fascinating so please plan to join us regardless of your reading and/or watching plans.
Please see the details below and I will chiming in with my thoughts as I read and watch in preparation for our event.
xo,
Stacey
